Telugu film actor-producer D. Ramanaidu, credited with making films in several languages, has been chosen for the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2009 for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, it was announced here Thursday. Ramanaidu, 74, will receive the award at the National Films Awards function scheduled to be held in the capital in October. He will receive a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs.1 million and a shawl, a statement from the information and broadcasting ministry said.
SP Balu hails from an authentic Telugu Brahmin family, there is something about his birth which has given rise to a speculation of sorts. Apparently, S P Balu was born in a place called Konetammapeta and in those days it was part of Madras presidency. So, in a way motherland is Tamil Nadu but he grew up in Nellore. With this, it is being reported that the Tamilians are speaking like they own SPB. one Tamil channel was giving a program on the eve of Balu’s birthday. It said "SP Balu is the singing icon of Tamilnadu, along with Tamil songs, he also rendered his voice in Telugu and that’s how the Telugu people know him"
